Implementation of the scheme in such a way as to raise the standard of living of the rural masses and create permanent assets by providing unskilled employment, long lasting jobs and thereby providing social infrastructure. Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme – Nature and Priority of Work under Maharashtra (As per Schedule 1 of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005)

1. Water conservation and water conservation works

2. Drought prevention works (including afforestation and tree planting)

3. Irrigation canal works (including small and micro irrigation works)

4. Irrigation works, fruit trees and land improvement works for the lands of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, below poverty line, under land reform and beneficiaries of Indira Awas Yojana, indebted small and small farmers.

5. Renewal of conventional water supply schemes and removal of silt from ponds.

7. Flood control, flood protection works, fodder works in the wetland area

8. Perennial link roads in rural areas

10. Works decided by the State Government in consultation with the Central Government.
